The Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC won their first game in the club history, defeating the River City Rovers 2-0. Chris Harmon opened the score in the 34th minute. Jeff McClure scored the second goal of the game and his second of the season in the 82th minute.
The Cincinnati Dutch Lions started the first half well on a windy night in Jeffersonville, IN. The defense was solid and the River City Rovers had only one shot on target in the first half. The Lions had some chances, which led to Harmon’s goal in the 34th.
“Because of the weather it was a difficult game for both teams,” CDL head coach Terry Nicholl commented. ”We put a man marker on the playmaker of the River City Rovers so they weren’t that dangerous as they were last week. We played a good game and I give credit to our goalkeeper with the good saves he had this day.”
In the second half there was a lot more pressure from the River City Rovers. Coach Nicholl changed the formation from one defensive midfielder to two defensive midfielders to get more control on the midfield. The Rovers were dangerous with shots from outside the box. The Cincinnati Dutch Lions didn’t create a lot of chances after that, but sealed the game with a wonderfully worked goal with McClure.
