Higuain the Hero in Draw with Timbers

The Columbus Crew (3-4-4, 13 points) earned a road point against the Portland Timbers (1-3-7, 10 points) in a thrilling 3-3 draw at Providence Park on Saturday evening.

Maximiliano Urruti scored the match’s first goal for Portland in the fifth minute of play before Federico Higuain leveled the score with a signature chip goal in the 14th minute. After Alvas Powell was shown a red card for a harsh challenge on Chad Barson, Columbus took a 2-1 lead before halftime courtesy of an Higuain penalty.

In the second half, Portland evened the score in the 80th minute through Will Johnson, but substitute Ethan Finlay gave Columbus the lead just one minute later after his shot deflected off the back of Futty Danso into Portland’s goal. However, the Timbers leveled the match once more in the 85th minute thanks to a Gaston Fernandez strike. It would prove to be the final goal of the match, which ended with a scoreline of 3-3.

The Crew returns to action with a home battle against the Chicago Fire in the Black & Gold’s Military Appreciation Night on Saturday, May 24 (7:30 p.m. ET/Time Warner Cable SportsChannel).
