Mount Union Men's Soccer Drops Non-Conference Finale at Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, PA - September 28, 2013 - The Mount Union men's soccer fell to Waynesburg (Pa.) College, 7-2 Saturday afternoon at John F. Wiley Stadium.

With the loss the Purple Raiders fall to 5-5, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 5-1-1.

Raiders Nic Nee (McMurray, Pa./ Peters Township) and Coty Lipply (Rootstown/Southeast) chipped in with late goals in the loss for Mount Union.

The Raiders open Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play Saturday Oct. 5, at 3:30 p.m. against Ohio Northern at Mount Union Stadium. 

MU Men's Soccer Edged Out by Allegheny Offense

MEADVILLE, PA - September 24, 2013 - Junior Coty Lipply  scored the lone goal as Mount Union's men's soccer team fell to Allegheny (PA) College, 3-1 Tuesday night.

Mount Union (5-4-0) scored in the first 2 minutes of play, when senior Thomas Beck would connect with Lipply who would put it in the top left corner of the net.

The Purple Raiders would hold that lead until the 45th minute when Allegheny (5-4-2) would tie the game at 1-1 going into the half.

The Gators would go on to score in the 50th minute off a free kick and then again in the 79th minute, as Allegheny would hold on to get the 3-1 victory.

In goal for the Raiders, freshman Dylan Lias played all 90 minutes, but suffered the loss and is now 1-2 overall for the season. He had three saves and faced 23 shots.

Mount Union plays its final non-conference match-up Saturday, Sept. 28 at 3:30 p.m. against Waynesburg in Waynesburg, PA.

MU Men's Soccer Blanks Washington & Jefferson in the Rain

ALLIANCE, OH - September 21, 2013 - Ryan Kissinger and Matt Furgiuele each had one goal in Mount Union men's soccer 2-0 victory over Washington & Jefferson Saturday afternoon at Mount Union Stadium.

Kissinger's goal, his first of the season, came in the 23rd minute when he received a pass from Thomas Beck.

The Purple Raiders would score again the 61st minute on a foul called against the Presidents, Furgiuele would kick the ball from out of bounds and the ball would go over the goalie's head.

The Presidents outshot the Raiders 16-14, while Dylan Lias  got the start and notched his first career shutout with eight saves. 

Mount Union improves to 5-3 on the season while Washington & Jefferson falls to 3-4.

The Raiders next play Tuesday at 7: 30 p.m. against Allegheny in Meadville, PA.

MU Men's Soccer Dealt Loss at the Hands of Denison

GRANVILLE, OH - September 15, 2013 - The Mount Union's men's soccer team (4-3) lost to Denison 4-1 this afternoon.

Dension 's Charlie Allen scored from a centred ball from Quinn Miller to put the Big Red on the board first in the early minutes of action.

The Big Red would lead 3-0 before seniors Chris Felker and Thomas Beck connected for the Purple Raiders' lone goal in the 62 minute.

Denison would score their fourth goal in the 77th minute to make it a final at 4-1.

The Raiders come back home, as they host Washington and Jefferson (PA) Saturday, Sept. 21 at 1 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.

Men's College Soccer: Purple Raiders Unable to Bounce Back

GAMBIER, OH - September 14, 2013 - The Mount Union's men's soccer (4-2) team was unable to bounce back against Kenyon, as they lost 4-1 on the road.

The Lords Tony Amolo struck first when Jeremiah Barnes found him in the third minute of play to give them the 1-0 lead.

Senior Chris Felker would score his third of the season and the game-tying goal with an assist from freshman Kevin Blackley in the sixth minute.

Kenyon would score two more goals in the first half and the clincher in the 55 minute.

Freshman Dylan Lias got his first start in the goal for the Raiders and had 11 saves on the day.

The Raiders look to tomorrow when they travel to Granville, and face off against Denison at 4 p.m.

Purple Raiders Defeat Bethany 1-0 in Championship Game

ALLIANCE, OH - September 8, 2013 - The Mount Union men's soccer team knocked off Bethany (WV) in the championship game of the Mount Union Invitational Sunday afternoon at Mount Union Stadium.

With the win, the Purple Raiders improve to 3-1 on the season, while Bethany falls to 1-4.

Mount Union goalkeeper Alex Bable had a total of eight saves on the weekend in his back-to-back shutout wins over Defiance and Bethany.

Thomas Beck netted his second goal of the season, in the 31st minute of the first half, which would hold throughout the rest of the match, to give the Raiders the 1-0 victory.

Mount Union returns to action on Wednesday when they play St. Vincent (PA) College at 7:00 PM at the Mount Union Stadium.

Men's Soccer Advances to the Championship Match in Mount Union Invitational

ALLIANCE, OH - September 7, 2013 - The Mount Union men's soccer team advanced to the championship round tomorrow as they defeated Defiance College 2-0, Saturday evening at home.

The Purple Raiders improve to 2-1 on the season while Defiance falls to 2-1.

Junior Thomas Beck scored first for the Raiders in the 13th minute, his first of the season.

Mount Union continued to generate offense in the first half as junior Coty Lippy would score again in the 21st minute to put the Raiders up 2-0.

Senior Alex Bable only faced 4 shots as the Raiders outshot the Yellow Jackets 8-5.

Mount Union looks to Bethany (WV) College tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. in the championship match at Mount Union Stadium.
