Blackley's Overtime Goal Lifts MU Men's Soccer Over Baldwin Wallace 2-1

BEREA, OH - October 29, 2013 - Freshman Kevin Blackley's game-winning overtime goal, led the Mount Union's men's soccer team over Baldwin Wallace, 2-1 on Tuesday night in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup at George Finnie Stadium.

The Purple Raiders improve to 10-8-0 overall and 5-3 in the OAC as the Yellow Jackets fall to 6-10-3 overall and 4-4 in the conference.

Sophomore Ryan Kissinger would put the Raiders on the board in the 54th minute to take a 1-0 lead. It would be Baldwin Wallace's Ben Deighton's penalty kick that would tie the game at 1 in the 65th minute. The score would remain 1-1 and go to overtime. 

Blackley's 92nd minute overtime goal would be enough to push Mount Union over the Yellow Jackets in the 2-1 victory.

Mount Union plays its regular season finale on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1 pm against Heidelberg, at Mount Union Stadium. Prior to the start of the game, the team will honor its seniors.

MU Men's Soccer Falls to Otterbein 1-0 Saturday

WESTERVILLE, OH - October 26, 2013 - Mount Union's men's soccer team lost to Otterbein 1-0 Saturday afternoon in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup at Clements Field.

The Purple Raiders drop to 9-8 overall and 4-3 in the OAC as the Cardinals improve to 8-8 overall and 3-4 in the OAC.

Otterbein junior Jared Pulliam would score the lone goal in the 75th minute mark to push the Cardinals to the 1-0 victory. Senior Kyle Ripma would make four saves on four shots on goals from the Raiders

Freshman Dylan Lias recorded three saves while facing four shots on goal from the Cardinals.

Mount Union returns to action as they travel to Berea at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29 to take on Baldwin Wallace in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup.

MU Men's Soccer Slides by Muskingum 3-2 on Wednesday Night

ALLIANCE, OH - October 23, 2013 - Freshmen Zachary Tanzillo and Quinn Malone would each notch their first collegiate goal in the 3-2 victory against Muskingum in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday.

The Purple Raiders improve to 9-7-0 overall and 4-2-0 in the OAC, while the Fighting Muskies fall to 5-10-1 and 0-5-1.

Tanzillo would net the ball off a pass from teammate freshman Matt Furguiele in the 11th minute. The Fighting Muskies John Barr would tie the game at one with a goal in the 13th minute.

Jack Weber would score for Mount Union in the 33rd minute before Malone scored in the 41st minute, giving the Raiders the 3-1 lead at the half. 

The Muskies would come within one as Austin Mills would score in the 54th minute of the second half, but Mount Union was able to hold on for the 3-2 victory.

The Raiders defense and goalkeeper freshman Dylan Lias held the Muskies to only four shots on goal.

Mount Union goes back on the road Saturday, Oct. 26 at 3:30 p.m. as they take on Otterbein for an OAC match in Westerville.

MU Men Roll Past Capital

ALLIANCE, OH - October 19, 2013 - Three different players scored as Mount Union's men's soccer team posted a 3-1 victory over Capital Saturday in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup at Mount Union Stadium.

Mount Union improved to 8-7 overall and 3-2 in the OAC, while Capital fell to 5-6-3 overall and 2-3 in the OAC.

Senior Thomas Beck would put the Raiders on the board first in the ninth minute, notching his 10th goal of the season. His goal would be followed by freshman Jacob Sutton in the 26th minute and the Raiders would hold the 2-0 lead for the remainder of the first half.

Capital would come within one as Austin Dent would put the Crusaders on the board in the 60th.

It would be Kevin Blackley that would make it the final 3-1 as he received a pass from Jack Weber in the 69th minute.

This victory marks the first victory over Capital in a decade for the men's soccer team, who last defeated Capital 6-3 in 2003 in Alliance.

The Raiders remain at home when they host Muskingum on Wednesday, October 23 at 4 pm at Mount Union Stadium in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup.

Beck Scores Hat Trick in Loss to JCU

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OH - October 15, 2013 - Mount Union senior Thomas Beck had his second career hat trick, but the men's soccer team saw its win streak stopped at two games with a 6-3 Ohio Athletic Conference loss Tuesday at John Carroll.

It was the second career hat trick for Beck, who has scored seven goals in the Purple Raiders last three games.  His first career hat trick was also against John Carroll in a 3-3 OAC Tournament game tie in 2010 which the Blue Streaks advanced 5-4 on penalty kicks.

The Purple Raiders fall to 7-7 overall and 2-2 in the OAC while the Blue Streaks, 10-2 overall, stay in first place in the OAC at 4-0.

John Carroll got on the board first as Brian Potocnik scored in the 9th minute but the Raiders answered just over 90 seconds later as Beck scored to tie the game at 1-1.

Potocnik got the lead back for John Carroll with another goal in the 24th minute and the Blue Streaks would tack on scores in the 30th and 41st minute to lead 4-1 at the break.

Beck tallied his second goal of the game in the 59th minute to bring the score to 4-2.

John Carroll extended the lead to 5-2 with a goal in the 63rd minute before Beck scored his third of the night on a penalty kick in the 80th minute.

The Blue Streaks tacked on a score in the final minute for the 6-3 final.

Mount Union returns home Saturday to host Capital in an OAC match at 3:30 pm at Mount Union Stadium.

Beck Leads Purple Raiders to Victory

WILMINGTON, OH - October 12, 2013 - Senior Thomas Beck's two goals led Mount Union's men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Wilmington on Saturday night in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup.

Mount Union improves to 7-6-0, 2-1-0 in the OAC, while Wilmington falls to 4-9-1 overall and 1-2-0 in OAC action.

The Purple Raiders were unable to generate any shots in the first half of action as Wilmington outshot the Raiders 7-0 in the first half.

It wasn't until the 57th minute when Beck would bury the ball unassisted. He would score again at the 72:00 minute mark to put the Raiders up 2-0.

Daniels Wick's goal would come off a penalty kick to put the Quakers within one, after Raiders goalkeeper Dylan Lias received a yellow card.

The Quakers outshot the Raiders 11-9 in the game.

Mount Union remains on the road when they travel to University Heights and face John Carroll at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Lipply's Late Goal Lifts Men's Soccer Over Marietta

MARIETTA, OH - October 9, 2013 - Junior Coty Lipply's late goal lifted the Mount Union men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Marietta, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Wednesday.

The Purple Raiders improve to 6-6-0, 1-1-0 in OAC action, while Marietta falls to 3-8-0 overall and 0-2 in the OAC.

Senior Thomas Beck would put the Raiders on the board first with an unassisted goal in the 18th minute with the 1-0 score holding for the remainder of the first half.

The Pioneers would tie the game at 1-1 in the 48th minute, and take their only lead, 2-1, in the 63rd minute. Beck would tie the game as he notched his second goal in the 77th minute.

It would be Lipply though, that would bury the ball at the 88:58 minute mark, to push Mount Union over Marietta.

The Raiders defense held the Pioneers to only eight shots, with freshman goalkeeper Dylan Lias having three saves.

Mount Union remains on the road as they take on the Wilmington Quakers on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 4:30 p.m. in Wilmington, Ohio.

MU Men Fall in OAC Opener

ALLIANCE, OH - October 5, 2013 - Mount Union's men's soccer team lost 3-0 at home to No. 14 Ohio Northern at Mount Union Stadium in the open of Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play.

The Purple Raiders fall to 5-6 and 0-1 in OAC, while the Polar Bears improve to 9-2, and 1-0 in OAC action.

Stephen Perkins put Ohio Northern up 1-0 in the 11th minute off a cross from Keegan Ross and beat goalkeeper Dylan Lias to the back of the net.

The Polar Bears lead scorer Matt Kinkopf would give Ohio Northern the 2-0 going into the half when he made a break to the goal.

Kinkopf would score his second goal of the match in the 82nd minute, to give Ohio Northern the final 3-0. 

Lias had three saves on the day, while Coty Lipply led the Purple Raiders with three shots.

The Raiders are on the road, when they travel to Marietta, game time is set for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
