Mount Union Men Fall to Carnegie Mellon

PITTSBURGH, PA - August 31, 2013 - The Mount Union men's soccer team suffered their first loss of the 2013 season to tournament host No. 18 Carnegie Mellon 1-0 on Saturday evening.

Carnegie Mellon's Matt Sarett goal in the 17th minute of the match stood as the only goal in the match.

Freshman Kevin Blackley's shot struck the crossbar, was rebounded by Coty Lipply who then attempted with a header but the Tartans keeper Jacob Rice was there to make the stop six minutes into the second period.

Tom Beck made a threat at the net in the final minute of play but was unable to capitalize against a strong Tartan defense.

Alex Bable again got the start for the Raiders, as he faced 24 shots from the Tartans and had nine saves on the night.

The Purple Raiders (1-1) look to bounce back next weekend (Sept. 7-8) when they host the Mount Union Invitational. They open against Defiance College at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday Sept. 7 at Mount Union Stadium. 

MU Men Defeat Geneva 2-1 in Friday in Season Opener

PITTSBURGH, PA - August 30, 2013 - The Mount Union men's soccer team gets their first victory of the 2013 campaign as they defeated Geneva (Pa.) 2-1 on Friday afternoon at Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) University's opening weekend tournament.

Garrett Masters collected a diagonal ball from Jeremy Troutman to put Geneva up 1-0 at the 4:32 mark over the Purple Raiders. The Raiders wasted no time to even the score at one as Chris Felker found the back of the net on a pass from Tom Beck. 

Felker would net his second goal of the game and of the first half off a pass from Coty Lipply.

Getting the start in the net for the Raiders was Alex Bable who faced 18 shots and made four saves against the Golden Tornadoes.

The Purple Raiders (1-0) are back in action tomorrow against tournament host Carnegie Mellon at 6:30 p.m.
