MU Men’s Soccer Falls to John Carroll in OAC Semifinals Wednesday Night

Third seeded Mount Union ended its season with a 2-1 loss at second seeded John Carroll in the semifinal round of the Ohio Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Tournament Wednesday at Don Shula Stadium.

John Carroll wasted no time getting on the board early, as their leading goal scorer Brian Potocnik would score in the first minute of action to take a 1-0 lead.

Matt Brodman would score in the 33rd minute to give the Blue Streaks a 2-0 lead going into the half.

The Raiders would come within one as Colin Combs would score in the 76th minute, but the Blue Streaks would hold Mount Union to a 2-1 final.

In goal for the Raiders, freshman Dylan Lias faced eight shots on goal, while John Carroll’s Zach Fehrenbach faced 10 shots on goal.

Mount Union finishes the season with a 12-9 overall record, and third in the conference.

John Carroll (15-3-1) advances to the championship round of the OAC Tournament against top-seeded Ohio Northern Saturday.

MU Men’s Soccer Blanks Heidelberg in Regular Season Finale

Mount Union’s men’s soccer team blanked Heidelberg, 1-0 in their final regular season game Saturday afternoon in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup at Mount Union Stadium.

Prior to the start of the game, the team honored their 10 seniors: Alex Bable,Thomas Beck, Josh Bennett, Sean Butler, Travis Connor, Eric Ehrenberg, Chris Felker, Joe Mills, David Nemeth, and Matt Woolford.

Junior Chris Motley’s lone goal led the Purple Raiders (11-8-0, 6-3 OAC) to the victory.

Heidelberg falls to 10-7-0 and 4-5 in the conference.

Motley’s goal would come in the 31st minute, after the ball bounced around and Motley headed into the net and the 1-0 margin would hold for the remainder of the game.

No. 3 seeded Mount Union will host No. 6 Heidelberg on Monday, November 4, at 7 pm at Mount Union Stadium for the first round of OAC tournament play.

Blackley’s Overtime Goal Lifts MU Men’s Soccer Over Baldwin Wallace 2-1

Freshman Kevin Blackley’s game-winning overtime goal, led the Mount Union’s men’s soccer team over Baldwin Wallace, 2-1 on Tuesday night in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup at George Finnie Stadium.

The Purple Raiders improve to 10-8-0 overall and 5-3 in the OAC as the Yellow Jackets fall to 6-10-3 overall and 4-4 in the conference.

Sophomore Ryan Kissinger would put the Raiders on the board in the 54th minute to take a 1-0 lead. It would be Baldwin Wallace’s Ben Deighton’s penalty kick that would tie the game at 1 in the 65th minute. The score would remain 1-1 and go to overtime.

Blackley’s 92nd minute overtime goal would be enough to push Mount Union over the Yellow Jackets in the 2-1 victory.

Mount Union plays its regular season finale on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1 pm against Heidelberg, at Mount Union Stadium. Prior to the start of the game, the team will honor its seniors.

MU Men’s Soccer Falls to Otterbein 1-0 Saturday

Mount Union’s men’s soccer team lost to Otterbein 1-0 Saturday afternoon in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup at Clements Field.

The Purple Raiders drop to 9-8 overall and 4-3 in the OAC as the Cardinals improve to 8-8 overall and 3-4 in the OAC.

Otterbein junior Jared Pulliam would score the lone goal in the 75th minute mark to push the Cardinals to the 1-0 victory. Senior Kyle Ripma would make four saves on four shots on goals from the Raiders

Freshman Dylan Lias recorded three saves while facing four shots on goal from the Cardinals.

Mount Union returns to action as they travel to Berea at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29 to take on Baldwin Wallace in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup.

MU Men’s Soccer Slides by Muskingum 3-2 on Wednesday Night

Freshmen Zachary Tanzillo and Quinn Malone would each notch their first collegiate goal in the 3-2 victory against Muskingum in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday.

The Purple Raiders improve to 9-7-0 overall and 4-2-0 in the OAC, while the Fighting Muskies fall to 5-10-1 and 0-5-1.

Tanzillo would net the ball off a pass from teammate freshman Matt Furguiele in the 11th minute. The Fighting Muskies John Barr would tie the game at one with a goal in the 13th minute.

Jack Weber would score for Mount Union in the 33rd minute before Malone scored in the 41st minute, giving the Raiders the 3-1 lead at the half.

The Muskies would come within one as Austin Mills would score in the 54th minute of the second half, but Mount Union was able to hold on for the 3-2 victory.

The Raiders defense and goalkeeper freshman Dylan Lias held the Muskies to only four shots on goal.

Mount Union goes back on the road Saturday, Oct. 26 at 3:30 p.m. as they take on Otterbein for an OAC match in Westerville.
