Houston goalkeeper Onstad added to Canadian national team roster

Dynamo veteran joins club teammate Hainault on squad

HOUSTON, TX (Thursday, January 21, 2010) -- Houston Dynamo goalkeeper Pat Onstad was added to the Canadian national team roster for its January 31 friendly against Jamaica, the Canadian Soccer Association announced today. Onstad joins Dynamo defender Andrew Hainault on the roster.

Onstad, 42, has the best career goals against average in Major League Soccer history at 1.05 and won the league’s first Save of the Year award in 2009. He has 56 career caps and is the all-time Canadian leader in shutouts with 21. As the oldest player in MLS in 2009, he played every minute of the regular season and playoffs for the Dynamo.

“I love being involved,” Onstad said. “It’ll be nice to see some familiar faces and also some new young talent Canada has. It will be a great experience to train with them this week.”

Hainault, 23, has 15 caps after representing Canada in the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup. He appeared in 28 of the Dynamo’s 44 games in all competitions last year, his first in MLS, contributing one goal and two assists as a defender. Both players will rejoin the Dynamo during their first week of training in Houston Feb. 1-5.

The Dynamo will host the 2010 Major League Soccer All-Star Game this summer at Reliant Stadium, and tickets are available in Dynamo season ticket packages, on sale now at HoustonDynamo.com or by calling (713) 276-7500.
